Frequently asked questions.
1. What is parenting counselling, and how can it help me?
Parenting counselling is a supportive space where you can talk about the challenges of raising kids. Whether you’re facing behavioral issues, adjusting to a diagnosis like ASD or ADHD, or struggling with differences in parenting styles, I’m here to help you find practical solutions and offer emotional support.
2. What kind of issues can I talk about in a session?
You can bring any parenting or family-related concerns to a session! This could be anything from managing your child’s behavior to finding balance in family life or navigating a tricky diagnosis. I’m here to listen and offer guidance that suits your family’s unique needs.
3. How do I know if counselling is right for me?
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply need someone to talk things through with, counselling can be a great way to get support. It’s for any parent who’s looking for help with the ups and downs of raising kids, whether you’re dealing with big challenges or just need a little guidance.
4. Can you help if my child has been diagnosed with ASD or ADHD?
Yes, I have experience supporting parents of children with ASD, ADHD, and other diagnoses. We can work together to find strategies that help your child thrive, while also taking care of your own emotional well-being during the process.
5. Do you see children too, or just parents?
My main focus is on supporting parents, but I can also work with children when it’s helpful for the family. Sometimes working with the whole family can bring even greater progress.
6. What is walk-and-talk therapy, and how does it work?
Walk-and-talk therapy is a relaxed alternative to traditional counselling where we meet outdoors in Belair National Park. Walking and talking at your own pace allows the conversation to flow in the natural setting, Immersing in nature can also really help with any stress you might feel, with the added bonus of moving your body!
7. How does telehealth counselling work?
Telehealth sessions let us connect online, so you can have a counselling session from the comfort of your home. It’s a flexible, convenient option that offers the same level of support as in-person sessions. This option may be easier as you don’t have to find babysitters!
8. What should I expect during the first session?
In our first session, we’ll get to know each other and discuss what’s brought you to counselling. It’s an opportunity for you to share what’s going on, and for me to understand how I can best support you. We’ll also make sure you feel comfortable and that it’s a good fit for both of us.
9. How much do sessions cost, and how do I pay?
Sessions are $120 for 50 minutes, and I offer a free 10-minute introductory chat to see if we’re a good match. Payments are made before each session, and I’ll make sure the process is easy for you to manage online.
10. Do I need a referral to book a session?
No referral is needed! You can contact me directly to book a session whenever you’re ready.
